Learning Resource Centre

The LRC is at the heart of our school community, where together we:

  1. Foster a love of reading and share stories with each other.
  2. Encourage lifelong curiosity, embrace questioning and enquiry about the world around us to inspire future researchers.
  3. Provide a space where every pupil is welcome and can develop the study habits they need to achieve their academic potential. Our vision stretches out across the whole school, where we see students come together to work with both shared and individual purpose. We are proud of our students, who we see begin their journey of learning with Roundhay and grow into resilient and responsible individuals.

The LRC is comprised of three “Learning Hubs”:

  • The Study Hub

This area is designed to focus on study, with a range of subject texts, revision guides and non-fiction material to assist school work. Students can access desk seating for independent work, group work and homework. The Study Hub also houses homework supplies and revision materials to assist students in their studies.

  • The Reading Hub

This area is designed to inspire passion for reading, providing access to hundreds of fiction books across a range of genres, catering to all interests and reading abilities. Students can borrow two books at a time for a maximum of two weeks before returning or renewing their book to the LRC. Students have access to soft seating, which is particularly popular during social and relaxed reading times.

  • The Digital Hub

This area is committed to the digital side of learning, which is integral to school life. Here, students have access to computers, iPads and printing facilities, which can be accessed during structured and social time as well as after school opening time.

Structured Time

The LRC is an important part of KS3 learning, as this is where students will take fortnightly library lessons under the Accelerated Reader scheme to foster positive reading habits and strengthen their literacy skills.

Library lessons have proved increasingly valuable to student learning, with most students leaving KS3 with greater confidence and improved reading ages, preparing them for the advanced reading they will undertake at GCSE level. Sixth Form students also find the LRC space to be a central component of A Level study. Students are able to use the space for study, group work and coursework during their free periods and exam study time.

Social Time

The LRC is open during break and lunch for different Year Groups. We have a timetable, shown below, so that all students have fair access. We offer a range of resources for social time, where students can catch up on homework, read, meet friends or play board games.

Congratulations to our wonderful Y13 students! We are delighted to celebrate the destinations they have secured with their A level and Vocational results.

The Class of 2026 reflect a diverse range of interests, ambitions and course choices. They will begin exciting apprenticeships with global employers such as KPMG and roles including a Level 7 Apprenticeship in Accounting and our first apprenticeships in Environmental Consulting/Flood Risk Management and Autocare.

Our students will be taking up university courses across the UK from St Andrews and Glasgow to Imperial College London, Cambridge and Bath. Closer to home, also proving popular this year, are Durham, Sheffield, Liverpool and Newcastle. With eight students securing places to study medicine, healthcare was again a favourite destination alongside courses in Radiography, Sonography and Optometry. Other exciting courses this year were Archaeology, Astrophysics and Contemporary Military and International History.

We are so proud of their individual success, testament to their sheer hard work along with the support of families and the teaching from our expert staff.

Roundhay represents a Sixth Form of all abilities who study a wide range of courses and we are delighted to recognise success at all levels across the curriculum. This year we were especially pleased that 30% of our A level entries were at the highest grades of A*/A and over 40 students achieved at least 3 A's at A Level.

Congratulations to everyone, we hope you enjoy celebrating your success and wish you all the very best for the future.
