Sixth Form Personal Development

Our Personal Development programmes allow Sixth Form students to access various experiences that provide the inspiration, advice and guidance needed to make informed decisions for their future.

Through Personal Development initiatives, students develop the skills necessary to be successful, growing their character to be responsible, resilient and ready to learn in a way that makes them recognisably Roundhay.

Our offer is developed around careers, character and experiences, and it includes:

The Enrichment Programme

This programme is purposefully developed around our core values of being responsible, resilient and ready to learn. Students learn broader skills: for example, they explore how to become successful independent learners or stay healthy and safe, preparing students for life in modern Britain.

The BIG question

This programme provides regular opportunities for discussion and debate on topical issues, such as protected characteristics and British values.

The Community Engagement Programme

All Sixth Form students are expected to contribute to the wider Roundhay school community and develop transferable skills for the future. Students participate in activities such as in-class support, paired reading, academic mentoring, sports leaders and volunteering at our Primary Campus, acting as ambassadors for younger students.

The Sixth Form Student Leadership Team

This programme provides student-led activities such as a weekly debate club and charity support. Our students have worked with household-name charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Children in Need, Red Nose Day/Sport Relief and mental health charities, including Leeds Mind.

Experiences

Students can participate in Sixth Form events within the school, trips and extracurricular clubs. We participate in national opportunities such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, National Citizenship Service, Social Mobility Foundation and local university schemes such as the University of Leeds Reach for Excellence Programme. Our weekly Careers Bulletin promotes a wealth of opportunities to engage in careers insights and taster opportunities, in addition to our week of work experience in the summer of Y12.
