Twickenham Trip 2017

On Sunday 26th February the PE Department took some keen rugby players to Twickenham to watch England play Italy in the 6 Nations! Although it was an early start and a long drive there and back it was definitely worth it. The atmosphere was amazing inside the iconic ground where some 81,904 spectators saw England (eventually) beat the italians. All pupils enjoyed singing along to 'Swing Low, Sweet Chariot' and many bought memorabilia from the Twickenham ground! What a day!

The Match:

England overcame a canny Italy to win 36-15 at Twickenham. A fascinating first half saw England thoroughly confused by Italian tactics, whereby their players refused to form rucks. Dan Cole scored England's first try in the 24th minute, but a Tommaso Allan drop-goal and a Giovanbattista Venditti try put Italy 10-5 up at half time. England started strongly in the second half and scored two quick tries through Danny Care and Elliot Daly to retake the lead. Michele Campagnaro scored Italy's second try on the hour, to bring his team within two points of England. But late tries from Jack Nowell and Ben Te'o secured a 17th consecutive win for England.
