Boys Football Round-up
Under 12's – A superb season saw the team finish top of their League with an unbeaten record of 5 wins and three draws from 8 games. Attendance to training has been excellent all year and more than twenty students have represented the team in fixtures. Their league position meant they entered the knockout stages of the league champions play offs and the merit league play offs. A dramatic loss in extra time ended their hopes in the league champions play offs but they reacted to that loss superbly to end the season as merit champions after a 4-1 victory at Wetherby Athletic FC.
Under 13's – After a strong first season the squad were entered into the West Yorkshire and English Schools FA cups. After an early exit in the English Schools they had an excellent run in the West Yorkshire Cup, eventually making the final held at West Riding County FA Headquarters. They lost to a strong team from Bradford but runners-up in the West Yorkshire Cup is a superb achievement.
Under 14's – A story of quarter finals for the u14 boys who lost in the Leeds Cup quarter final before going on to finish second in the League. This led to another quarter final of the champion’s play-offs. A hard fought game went to penalties after a deserved late equaliser from Roundhay. Sadly, they lost the shootout 5-4 to eventually finalists Corpus Christie. Next Year lads!!!!
Under 15's – Early exits in the Leeds Schools and English Schools meant more focus on the League and West Yorkshire Trophy. An underserved semi-final loss in the West Yorkshire Cup was a blow to the squad, but their 100% league record of 5 wins from 5 ensured they went through to both the League Champions and merit League knockouts. They really stepped up to the plate, and excellent team performances led to two finals at South Leeds Stadium. The first was a 3-0 victory with some excellent team goals and scintillating football played. The second was a 2-1 victory that was ground out with hard work, determination and steely defensive work from the whole team. This completed the ‘double’ and confirmed this squad as the most successful football team at Roundhay with 6 trophies in 4 years. A huge achievement!!!!!
Under 16's – Another team who finished top of their league, leading to the knockouts of both the League champions and the merit league. After a loss to Corpus Christie in the Merit semi-final, they faced them again in the semi-final of the League champions and beat them 3-1 with a top performance and some excellent goals. This was nothing more than the lads deserved and ensured they finished their season with a final (for some, their last ever game for Roundhay!). The lads played well in the final and created some good chances, but it wasn’t to be, eventually losing a tight game 1-0.
Under 19's – A fantastic season for the u19 boys that included a mix of year 13,12, & year 11 students. After losing their first game on penalties in the English Schools FA Cup, they went unbeaten from October to April. They finished the season as runners up in the Leeds Schools Cup but this was eclipsed by a fantastic run of victories in the West Yorkshire cup. They reached the final playing all games away from home, scoring 15 goals and not conceding any! The final was played at the prestigious headquarters of the West Ring FA and in a game that had it all, after drawing 3-3, Roundhay won the penalty shootout 5-4 and deservedly were crowned West Yorkshire CHAMPIONS 2017/2018.
Well done to everyone who has taken part this year, between the boys and girls success (Girls Football 2017-18) this is undoubtedly the best football season ever for Roundhay School!!!!
