Year 8 Football Success
The year 8 football team have had a fantastic season. They won the League with 7 wins out of 7 scoring over 40 goals in the process. Due to their league position this meant that they entered the merit league and Champions of Leeds playoffs. They won through in both competitions to the final at John Charles Centre. In the first final they played Woodkirk and after a very mature performance came through with a comfortable 5-3 victory. In the second final against Ruth Gorse Academy after leading 3-1 at half time they came out on the wrong end of a 5-4 scoreline in a really close game. The team have showed a lot of improvement across the season and a really good attitude and team spirit. Thank you to the amazing support we have received from parents this year.
Latrell Davis - England Basketball
Over the Easter Weekend, Latrell was playing basketball for the England U15 Team at the Lions Cup Tournament in Paris, France. England were in Pool A with KSB Belgrade (Serbia), Poland National Team and the tournament hosts, Saint Charles Basket (France).
Day 1 started off with a game against KSB Belgrade followed by a game against Poland. England couldn’t pick up a win on Day 1, however did gain a tremendous amount of experience playing two of the competition’s top sides.
Day 2 commenced with their last pool game against Saint Charles Basket (France). England were in the lead for the majority of the 4th quarter, but Saint Charles took a narrow lead with 10 seconds left in the game, ultimately leading to England losing by 3 points.
In the afternoon, England played a classification game against the 3rd place team from Pool B, JSF Nanterre (France). The morning’s disappointment only served to fuel England’s push for a maiden win, and they got their reward with a comfortable win over JSF Nanterre.
Day 3 would see England facing the tournament hosts again (Saint Charles Basket), who they narrowly lost to the day before, in the 5th/6th place game. England enjoyed some revenge by beating St Charles Basket 76-49 to claim 5th Place at the Lions Cup 2019.
Fantastic achievement Latrell!
