Active Travel Ambassadors
Active Travel Ambassadors (ATA) from years 7-13 have been working on surveying our students to see how they travel to school and home. We found that most students live within 2 miles of the school and we found that congestion on Old Park Road was causing problems. We joined ‘Modeshift STARs’ (Modeshift STARS – Travel Plan in Education, Business & Communities) in an education campaign to address travel issues.
Our students planned a campaign and delivered it to the Modeshift team in April 2023 in hope of being awarded a grant of £250. We were successful and are now using the money to help improve active travel at Roundhay School.
In the summer of 2023 we are focussing on Year 8 and awarding prizes for form groups and individuals who travel actively.
Active travel includes:
walking
cycling
Park and stride (drop off and walk the rest of the way) – YouTube
Carshare then park and stride
We understand that some students live too far away to walk the whole journey which is why we are encouraging the ‘Park and Stride’ option.
