Music

Our Music curriculum is designed to engage and inspire all pupils to develop a love of music and to nurture their musical talent. Through participation in stimulating musical activities, pupils will increase their self-confidence, creativity, musical skills and knowledge. By exploring a world of music pupils will develop a cultural understanding beyond their own experience.

Children engage in weekly music lessons which cover the important components of listening and appraising, performing and composing.

In addition to our weekly music lessons, during Spring 2, when. we focus on Performing Arts, each year group experiences an intensive instrumental programme.

We use the Charanga scheme of work and resources to deliver our music curriculum. This scheme carefully maps out the key knowledge and skills that children are expected to master each year.

The aims of our curriculum are:

1.Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.
2.Learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellent.
3.Understand and explore how music is created, produces and communicated, including through the interrelated dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
