MFL Spanish
Children begin their journey of learning Spanish in Year 3 where they become familiar with the sounds and basic sentence patterns of the language, as well as finding out about life in Spain. Teaching sequences follow a bespoke sequence where children use Talk 4 Writing to learn a model text off by heart, and then learn how to use and manipulate the different structures from the model. This practice involves lots of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and although a focus is made on correct pronunciation and application of prior learning as children move through Key Stage 2, we encourage children to play with the language and be brave in developing their confidence. Songs, rhymes and stories accompany the delivery of the curriculum in weekly lessons across the year. Topics that our pupils study include: school, home, life in the city, holidays, weather, food, keeping fit, describing past actions and activities, and talking about the future.
