Friends of Roundhay School

FORS/COMMUNITY

Our work within and for the local community is important to us.

Roundhay School’s community agenda aims to enrich the education and experience of our pupils, parents and staff. We have a responsibility to develop our pupils' understanding about how they can contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in our local community and the wider society.  Click here to read more about Careers, Enrichment and Engagement: responsible for organising a wide variety of events that help pupils achieve their potential and equip them to move through into the working world.

Roundhay School endeavours to play a pivotal role within the local community through:

  • leading community events and projects;
  • providing a community service;
  • offering community learning opportunities;
  • initiating collaborative partnerships.

We are a Leeds Rhinos Ambassador School. This is a unique partnership, which encourages students and their families to take advantage of a range of events and offers including discounted tickets to games and the opportunity to represent the school in exciting activities. Members of the Leeds Rhinos have been teaching rugby skills to Secondary and Primary Pupils.

FRIENDS OF ROUNDHAY SCHOOL

The Friends of Roundhay School is our parent-staff association (PSA) which aims to bring the school together through various social events throughout the school calendar. The events are always very popular and a great way of getting to know everyone and feeling part of our school community.  Our aims are:

  • To raise money to contribute to and support the education, inclusion and well-being of the school’s pupils.
  • We also aim to be a route for information sharing and communication, both within the internal school community and the wider community, where we support local community groups and charities.
  • We create opportunities for parents and staff to meet in a more informal way (a relaxed social environment) at school, enabling conversation, acquaintances and friendships to be struck.

The main events we hold acorss both campuses include our Curry Night, the Inter-Primary School Football competition with car boot sale, the Primary Summer Fair and the Christmas Craft Fair.

Christmas Craft Fair - Saturday 30th November.  This is our biggest event of the year and a great start to the festive season.  Here's a flavour of the last event:

On Saturday 1st December 2018,  Roundhay School held its long awaited Christmas Craft Fair. After a one year break, the Fair was bigger and better than ever, welcoming members of our community to come and wander around an array of fabulous craft stalls.  People were able to indulge in some early Christmas shopping from stalls such as Coronet Collection Jewellery, Sestini Arts and Crafts, the pupil jam jar stall and the Roundhay rotary stall. Once enough shopping had been enjoyed people relaxed and treated themselves to some of the delights from the renowned Friends of Roundhay cafe where they were served by our lovely year 11 students. Those with a sweeter tooth sampled treats from the Primary cake stall and many had fun and tried their luck at the raffle and tombola stalls, all in the presence of Father Christmas himself, who made an early appearance at the Fair.

The Roundhay Christmas Craft Fair is always a great start to the festive season and with the fabulous support from everyone who helped ensure the event was a success whether by baking, having a stall, setting up or packing down or visiting and enjoying some retail therapy, Friends of Roundhay School raised an impressive £1,400. This type of fund-raising is invaluable and supports both the staff and students at both the primary and secondary campuses.
