The ‘Dyslexia Base’

The ‘Dyslexia Base’ at Roundhay School is a Resourced Provision that supports pupils with an EHCP with dyslexia as the main area of need. Pupils are offered a place in the Resourced Provision, following a consultation with the local authority, which usually takes place when the pupil is in Year 6, ready for a Year 7 transition.

We guide our pupils to reach their full potential by offering specialist literacy teaching in the ‘Dyslexia Base’ in place of Modern Foreign Language lessons in the mainstream. Pupils who attend the Base are fully integrated into Roundhay School, are a member of a form, and attend all other mainstream curricular lessons from Year 7. Pupils receive support from our team of highly skilled TAs in many literacy-heavy mainstream lessons, who also facilitate pupils’ access to assessments and examinations through tailored access arrangements.

The ‘Dyslexia Base’ is a calm and nurturing space, offering pupils a safe haven to focus on developing key literacy skills while supporting other areas related to dyslexia, such as self-esteem and confidence as a learner.

The ‘Dyslexia Base’ is like a family, where all members are equally and highly valued, everyone has a voice, and everyone has the opportunity to meet their full potential and achieve their goals, whatever they may be.

"The support my child is receiving in school is exceptional and is helping her to make good progress in her lessons. Having a TA in most lessons is helping her to stay focused and access the work without worrying about having to do large amounts of writing."
