Our School / Music

We have carefully designed our Music Curriculum, which clearly outlines the knowledge and skills pupils gain at each stage of their learning journey. You will see the clear endpoints the curriculum is building towards. We have carefully sequenced these to help pupils progress well over time. We have high academic ambition for all of our pupils and we adapt this curriculum accordingly to meet the needs of all our children.

The curriculum has been built using the following components:

These three building blocks secure progression in the musical activities of performing, composing and listening/appraising. We aim to provide a good music education underpinned by robust, direct and incremental teaching that develops knowledge of music’s technical and constructive aspects. This knowledge is learned in the context of music’s history and provenance, allowing our pupils to make increasingly sophisticated, expressive responses and gain musical meaning. Together, these building blocks contribute to what could be described as ‘musical understanding’.

Please see below our curriculum INTENT for Music. This includes the core knowledge and skills your child will be taught at each stage of their journey with us…
