Celebrating Success- Oliver G Climbs to National Success
Having battled through three regional competitions to become champion for Yorkshire and the NE, Year 4 pupil Oliver Goodwin won a place at the National Junior Finals in Ratho near Edinburgh. Final places are won by children who have placed in the top three in their region.
After a long drive and overnight stay the competitors climbed three boulders and three routes in one of the biggest climbing walls in Europe. Oliver was competing with 27 other boys in his category from all over England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. This year the route setters made the boulders and routes harder than ever before as standards in the younger categories have been so high.
Oliver was really delighted to come second in what was a very hard and tight competition. The category was won by his Yorkshire and NE team mate and Depot Academy training partner Oliver Knox-Renshaw.
Yorkshire and the NE had a great day and came second overall in the Regional Competition, beaten by London North and London South. Next year Oliver will be stepping up to the next age category so he is already working hard.
Well done Oliver and good luck for the rest of the year!
