Author Visit - Elizabeth Wein

On Wednesday 20th September, all year 8 students were treated to a visit from bestselling teen author Elizabeth Wein. Elizabeth's books combine historical fiction and adventure and often feature powerful female lead characters. Code Name Verity was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal in 2013 and today Elizabeth introduced us to her prequel to this novel, The Pearl Thief, which is written from the point of view of Julia, one of the characters from Code Name Verity.

Elizabeth wowed us all with the stories that inspired her novels - from learning to fly a plane (yes - Elizabeth has a pilot's license!) to tales of pearl hunters in 1930's Scotland. She also asked our students for their own stories of travel and adventure and gave us some top tips for planning and avoiding writer's block.

The visit ended with Elizabeth signing books and answering questions in the library.

If Elizabeth's visit has inspired you to write something creative or just get lost in a good book, come along to our reading group on Mondays (3-4pm) in the LRC. We write stories, read good books, chat about the novels we love and go to author talks and events!
